DD Palmer founded the profession of chiropractic with a first principles approach. He sought to distill the essential axioms of life on Planet Earth and apply them to a healing profession with the axis of the human skeleton as the fulcrum for shifting the destiny of man. Those principles that became the foundation of the chiropractic profession were based upon the best science available in that day. Science has advanced a great deal since that time, and, when viewed through the lens of the chiropractic perspective, it greatly enriches our understanding of the original chiropractic principles, and the big idea that emerged from them. When DD Palmer introduced chiropractic in the second chapter of his posthumously published book, The Chiropractor, he first described the science of ecology, or bionomics, and its relation to the intelligent forces of adaptation present within all living things. This was my starting point for exploring the material that became this book. The thought that to understand chiropractic, one first had to understand ecology, and the way energy flows through living systems, and the way living things orient themselves to that flow in.
